Are you ready?

Let’s dive in!

How to Rent Your Car on Getaround in 5 Steps

Sharing your car using Getaround can be an excellent source of additional income. However, before this can happen, you must ensure you (and your vehicle) meets all of Getaround’s requirements.

You might find that becoming a Getaround host means going through a process that’s a bit different from other car-sharing companies.

So to ensure nothing falls through the cracks, we’ve broken these down into 5 bite-sized steps.

Here are the steps:

  1. Ensure vehicle eligibility
  2. Pass the safety inspection
  3. Sign up as a Getaround host
  4. Install the Getaround Connect device
  5. Rent out your car

Now, let’s move on to the details.

Step 1: Ensure Vehicle Eligibility

Getaround wants to give drivers a stellar experience — and that begins by ensuring the cars they use are in good condition.

How do they do it? By putting vehicle requirements.

As the renter, you need to make sure your vehicle meets those requirements.

To help you, we’ve listed the requirements for your reference. See which ones you can check off:

  • Your vehicle must be privately owned and have at least 4 wheels.
  • Your vehicle must not seat more than 10 passengers.
  • Your vehicle’s model year must be 2007 or newer.
  • Your vehicle’s mileage must be less than 200,000 miles.
  • The front driver and passenger sides of your vehicle must have power locks.
  • Your vehicle must be in good condition, physically and mechanically, which means:
    • No leaks in the engine
    • Damages are limited to minor dings or scratches (applies to wheels, too)
    • All tires must match, and their tire treads must be more than 3/32
    • If there are cracks on the windshield, these must not be more than two inches long nor within the driver’s line of sight.
    • Must have completely functional lights

A check on all these boxes means you can list your car on Getaround, as long as its make and model aren’t part of this table.

Step 2: Pass the Safety Inspection

Even if your vehicle is up to Getaround’s standards, some situations require you to undergo a safety inspection. These include:

  • If your car is more than 10 years old
  • If its mileage is beyond 125,000 miles

If your vehicle fits these descriptions, then you must bring it to a car technician for a test. Remember, it’s your responsibility to ensure that your vehicle meets Getaround’s requirements.

Step 3: Sign Up as a Getaround Host

Creating your profile in Getaround is straightforward.

Simply go to their website, click “Share a Car”, and fill out the form below.

You will be asked to put in the necessary information, which includes your name, email address, phone number, how many vehicles you want to register, etc.

From there, you can set up your car profile. Getaround will even ask you to name your car.

Future guests will use the name to find your car, so choose a catchy one. Remember, you can’t change this after, so ensure it’s something you’re comfortable with in the long run.

You’ll need to put in your car’s details, too. And always check all applicable features as it may make it more attractive to guests. For example, if you’re comfortable with pets in your car, don’t forget to check pet-friendly.

Besides that, be ready to do the following:

  • Indicate your car’s location
  • Detail instructions on how to pick up and return your car
  • Write a short description of your vehicle
  • Upload pictures of your car
  • Provide your state of registration, VIN, and license plate

On top of that, you will also need to pay 2 fees when you list a car — $100 for the initial setup and a $20 subscription fee per month.

Once you’ve completed all this, you’re ready to have the Connect device installed in your vehicle.

Step 4: Install the Getaround Connect Device

Now, paying a fee may seem counterintuitive, but it makes sense when you realize that Getaround provides a Connect device to all its listed cars.

Once you complete your listing, someone from GetAround’s sales team will contact you for the installation.

Getaround Connect is an electronic device that allows GPS tracking and provides anti-theft technology. For example, when you’re not using your car and it’s not with a verified guest, the device disables its starter.

Step 5: Rent Out Your Car

Once you already have Getaround Connect installed, your vehicle can start receiving bookings.

You’ll get your earnings monthly (every 15th) through PayPal. Don’t forget that you’ll get earnings from this month’s trips by the following month.

Getaround Big Bonuses

What makes Getaround stand out is that it offers big bonuses to its hosts. And yes, that’s besides earning income from rentals.

2 big bonuses are currently available. These are:

  • The Onboard Bonus
  • The Earn More Bonus

The (New) Onboard Bonus

As the name implies, this bonus is specifically for hosts who add cars to their listings. The amount you get varies depending on where your vehicle’s located.

Those that are in Zones 1, 2, or 3 get $1,000, $750, and $500, respectively. These have the greatest guest demand — so the higher your zone, the bigger your bonus becomes.

The best news? This bonus applies to even your first car listing!

The Earn More Bonus

This bonus is available to all hosts. Unlike the previous one, your car’s location has nothing to do with it.

The Earn More Bonus rewards hosts for their success. As you earn more and more from rentals, you’ll receive a higher bonus.

For example, hosts that earn $500 a month get an additional $50. It might not seem like a lot, but the amount quickly increases.

You can get a $300 bonus if you earn $1,000 per month. It increases to $600 if your earnings reach $1,700.

Conclusion

Sure, Getaround isn’t the only car-sharing platform in the market, but its technology and bonuses make it a solid option.

And if you want to be a part of that, then you now know how to rent your car on Getaround.

So what are you waiting for?

Go ahead and become one of their hosts.

Happy earning!
